Best of Times for local Football.
Not counting the game they played against each other & one preseason game, Kittanning & Ford City are undefeated this year in high school football. They combined for a 16-2 overall record, and one has to ask is this the best year in history of local high school football? Now both teams look to the playoffs to be the first team in decades to bring a WPIAL title back to the county. Leechburg won that last title in 1967. Ford City's trip to the WPIAL semi-final trip last year was the deepest a FC team has ever gone into the playoffs. It also was the 3rd year in a row the Sabers produce at least 1 playoff win. Kittanning which has made the WPIAL playoffs a lot in recent years, returns this year looking for their first win in quite sometime. In recent years male sports outside of football have struggled to pose as WPIAL playoff threats. However not in football as both school have found the most successful periods in history of the programs to be the recent years. Even with struggling economic times and falling enrollment, but school have found tremendous success in football. The Pittsburgh Trib, even selected Ford City as it's pick to win the "AA" Wpial title. But with a tough draw for both teams making the title game will be a challenge. So will the WPIAL Playoffs usher in a true Golden Age for local football, or it all down hill from here........To be decide in the near future.........
