Top Sporting Moments of 2006

Remember at the beginning of the year, I thought with the Winter Olympics, WBC, & World Cup 2006 had a chance to be the greatest year in history of sports. While not sure that was the case, I'm sure it one of better ones, with it's share of excitement.

6. George Mason makes the Final Four - the first small conference school to make the final four in long time, and the ultimate bracket buster.

5. Japan wins the World Baseball Classic - by defeating Cuba 10-6 in the final. It was the first time in history this tournament was held, and many of the players considered this their biggest moment in their careers. It also made the Red Sox part with $100m

4. Torino 2006 - Anytime you have an Olympics, it has to be one of the top stories, Bode came back empty, but Cindy Klassen of Canada won 5 medals.

3. The Steelers win the Super Bowl, after years of trying the Yinzers final get one for the thumb.

2. Texas beats USC to win the national title. What a way to kick off the year as the University Texas behind Vince Young finishes perfect by defeating USC, denying the Trojans of another title, and possibility best CFB team ever status.

1. Italy wins the World Cup in Germany- It's the Azzuirr's fourth world title. Think about this, over 200 countries started playing for this title 2 1/2 years before the final. Not to mention it was the most watch sporting event in world history.
