Beckham to LA for $250 million

Somewhere ARod is smiling.

The Los Angeles MLS, the LA Galaxy is reporting paying David Beckham $250million to play five years for them starting on July 1st. First of all the MLS is really different in how they pay their players, so I'm not sure with team will receive in some possible endorsement money. That said this is still ridiculous. Beckham doesn't even start for Real Madrid, they aren't even the top team in their league, let alone Europe. At almost 32 him might be slightly above average at best even in the American League.

Basically he's getting paid $50m a year to come over make movies, commercials, magazine covers, and occasionally play soccer. It's really that simple.

As a true soccer fan, this will spark some interest in the MLS, but I'm predicting it won't have the impact people think. On game days his on the field play will be more a of slide show, he's not going to blow anyone away with his talent. He pretty boy image, might actually turn off, the American sports crazy male. He might attract some people to watch, but it won't be the same guys watching football Sundays. Time will tell, but LA probably should have gone after Christian Ronaldo instead.
