Taryne Mowatt: Arizona's Ace
There are some positions in college athletics like QB at Notre Dame, PG at Duke, dotting the I at Ohio State.... but honestly is there a more marquee position in women’s collegiate athletics than starting pitcher for Arizona? After pitching her way to a national title last season what will the Taryne Mowatt and the Cats do for an encore this season.....

It is an amazing experience. There is such a fine tradition of pitchers that have dominated the softball world, and just to be a part of that tradition and hopefully leave a lasting impression to where people will remember me in the years to come is a dream come true. I just hope that when people talk about Arizona softball and the pitchers that have been in the circle, my name is mentioned.
4. Any future softball plans? Olympics? Going Pro?
Well I tried out for the Olympic team and didn't make it so I think that option is out of the question right now. Maybe if softball gets put back into the Olympics in 2016 I will still be around to try out but that is something I'll have to play by ear. As far as after this season, I am planning on going pro. The draft is this Friday and I am not sure where I am going to be going, but hopefully it is someplace that I can go play ball at and have a good time and see the sites around the area. I plan on taking full advantage of the places I get to travel to.

** Taryne was draft with the #6 pick in the 2008 draft, going to the Washington Glory.

1. After winning the title last year, what will the Cats’ do for an encore?
With how exciting and interesting last year's season was, I think the only thing we can do as an encore would be to win another title. No team has ever three-peated in softball so if we were to accomplish this feat then it would be something very special.
2. What is it like to be a starting pitcher for Arizona, a position with so much tradition?

3. What are the keys to your success?
The keys to my success would have to be hard work. I've never been bigger and faster than all the other pitchers out there so I have had to work hard on the smaller aspects of pitching like changing speeds and locating the ball. I also do a lot of extra cardio to make sure I have enough stamina to get through season.

5. After winning the title last year and two EPSY’s have you received any extra attention?
Haha, I always get this question. And the answer is yes, I have received a little extra attention. People will just say congratulations and wish me luck on the upcoming season and they are always very respectful. I guess it's something that comes with the territory of being a pitcher on a national championship team.
6. What is one thing you enjoy outside of softball?
Outside of season, I like to just do simple things that keep me occupied like reading and doing puzzles. During the summer I try to travel as much as possible to as many different places as I can. I am very interested in going to different places and relaxing. I have lots of plans for myself when I am done with softball, and of course when I have enough money to do all of it haha.
7. Since it’s close to V-day, I just have to ask. Is there any advice you would give to guys planning their dates?
If I had to give any advice for Valentine's Day, I would say just to plan something nice and simple. I think guys sometimes get nervous that they have to plan the perfect evening that's romantic and the exact thing a girl wants, but the truth is, a girl just wants to feel special for a day and spend it with the guy that she loves/likes. For me, the company is more important than what we're doing. And of course roses and a beautifully written card doesn't hurt.

Follow up: Who wouldn't pick her #1??? I wish Pittsburgh had pro softball team other than the Pirates. Arizona is ranked #1 again this season as they go for their 3 straight title. Taryne is a preseason national player of the year candidate. She also shows, you don’t have to be over 6’ to be a great pitcher. Most young pitchers should really pay attention to how she manages a game. I’m sure you’ll have a chance to catch her and the Cats on TV this season. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for her.

Taryne Mowatt = Jenny Finch 2.0, as Arizona Softball battles for CWS Title

Taryne Mowatt pitched Arizona into a decisive game 3 of the NCAA College Softball World Series last night with an extra inning 1-0 win over Tennessee. Mowatt a sophomore from Corona, California threw over 180 pitches last night and over 888 in the last week during the CWS. The 5'6 Mowatt could reach Jenny Finch status in the southwestern desert with another win. Mowatt and Arizona play today at 8pm, I'm guessing the ratings are going to be much higher.
***Update***
Mowatt pitched the Cats to the title last night, behind a 5-0 win. Taryne pitched a World Series record 60 innings
